Zombie Apocalypse Warning a Hoax

By

"The bodies of the dead have risen and are attacking the living. Do not attempt to approach or apprehend these bodies as they are considered extremely dangerous," was the warning that interrupted KRTV and the CW network's programming and created a hype of zombie apocalypse among people.

The threat was broadcast by hackers, who broke into the Emergency Alert System of both the channels Monday, confirmed the Montana Television Network, owner of both the channels.

The Associated Press reported that WNMU General Manager Eric Smith said that the police informed them the source was not local and might have been done from another country. He said he did not know of any arrests adding that the equipment changes have been made to avoid such incidents in future.

The Great Falls Police Department said that the news did not panic the people, reported Examiner.com. "The incident gave most a chuckle. There were some calls to the department, but they were along the lines of, 'If a zombie walks on my front lawn, can I shoot him?'," said Sgt. Bryan Slavik.

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters told its members about programming changes to prevent hacking. Association President Karole White said this is the first breach of the emergency system she's aware of since its inception in the 1940s, reproted the Associated Press.
