Rumors regarding Android N as the next iteration of Google's operating system have popped up online. Android Headlines reported that the N in Android N could stand for Nutella. Other possible names for the upcoming software include Android 7.0 or Android 6.1.
New big features are reportedly coming to Android N. Many expect that N will have multi-window and split screen support. Google's Andrew Bowers said in an AMA about Pixel C on Reddit, "we'd spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!"
If the rumor is true, Android N will be Google's answer to the new multitasking features on the iPad Pro. It will be add more functionality and efficiency to Google's tablets.
In Android N, Google could be doing away with Hangouts, replacing it with an entirely new messaging app. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the new app will combine Hangouts with Google Now's smart ability to answer users' questions.
As per Neurogadget, Android N could bring a 3D Touch-like feature to Android devices. The ClearForce Touch technology that Google might be planning to include in N is expected to rival Apple's 3D Touch.
Android N could also have YouTube Music app pre-installed. There could also be the presence of ad blockers in the next OS.
A new dark theme is said to be included in Android N. The new theme will reportedly save up the battery life of Android devices.
The Bitbag reported that the possibility of Android and Chrome OS blended together to be the Android N. It is also possible that they will be entirely separate products. Regardless, more Chrome OS integration is expected in Android since Google's new CEO, Sundar Pichai, was once head of Android and Chrome.
As for Android N's release date, rumors say the new Google OS will launch at the same time as its predecessors. It is expected that Android N will be announced at Google I/O conference and released on October or November.
