Mike Modano and Willa Ford Divorce: NHL player Modano and Singer Ford Divorce After Five Years of Marriage

Wednesday. - After five years of marriage, famous hockey player Mike Modano and singer/actress Willa Ford announce that the couple is getting a divorce.

In a joint statement released to E Online, lawyers of the former couple states, "It is with great sadness that after five years of marriage, Willa and Mike have decided to divorce...They remain friends and wish each other success and happiness,"(www.eonline.com)

Former NHL's Detroit Red Wings hockey man, Modano, 42 started dating the actress cum singer, Ford in 2003. The couple exchanged wedding vows in 2007 in Athens, Texas.

Modano Spokesman Rob Scichili confirmed the news to the Associated Press, but refused to reveal any further details.

Modano retired last year after a season with the Detroit Red Wings, ending a 21-year-old career in the sport. Prior to Detroit, he played for Dallas and Minnesota. According to Yahoo Sports Modano is the highest-scoring American-born NHL player, 1,374 points and 561 goals.

Amanda Lee Madona, known by her stage name Willa Forda, rose to fame in 2001 with her hit song " I wanna be bad." The 31-year-old stared on the ABC reality show "Dancing with the Stars," and currently stars in a Starz TV drama called "Magic City." Prior to Madona, Forda date famous boy-band singer Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boy.

The couple has been together for nine years total and has no children together.
