Rumors that "The Vampire Diaries" series will be ending soon have been rampant as Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev's personal relationship has reportedly been taking a toll on the hit CW TV series. Reports reveal that season 6 may be the end of the series.

According to Fashion & Style, rumors have been suggesting that the former couple, who also plays the lead roles of Damon and Elena, have been very awkward towards each other while on the set and nothing has been the same since the two broke up.

The site reported that sources claim that the off-screen tension between Dobrev and Somerhalder is very apparent. "[Dobrev] can't stand to even be near him, even when he's playing Damon," revealed the insider.

To add to the tension, Somerhalder's off-screen girlfriend, Nikki Reed, is said to frequent the set of "The Vampire Diaries."

The two started dating a few months ago. Since then, they have been spending a lot of time together and reports revealed that they are madly in-love with each other.

On other news, although Somerhalder and Dobrev may not be getting back together in real life, their on-screen characters, Damon and Elena, are desperate for the opposite as they have been missing each other terribly.

After the happening in Mystic Falls, Elena is still coping with the supposed death of Damon. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dobrev shared what her character will be going through.

"We do fast forward four months, so the initial shock grieving, we've already surpassed. Now we're seeing the second phase of it, which is eerily deceiving and odd. It's not a very conventional way of dealing with grief," said the actress.

Meanwhile, Damon is desperately racing to get back to his family and Elena.

"He's pissed off. They're stuck in a place they don't want to be, and Damon's fiercely loyal. He feels the need to get back to his family. They're trying everything. They're Scooby-Doo-ing that sh- like crazy," revealed Somerhalder in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"He'll go through every length to make that happen. It's a driving force in his life. Damon doesn't give a sh- about very much except his home, his brother, and his girl," the actor told the site.
