A new revelation from one of the actors of "Star Trek 3" disclosed that the movie will possibly begin filming early next year.

On his appearance at "The Today Show," Zachary Quinto suggested that the film may begin production six months from now.

"I think it's on the horizon. Things are rumbling, so I have a feeling that we will be in production sometime in the next six months," revealed Quinto during his appearance on the show for promotion of his Starz documentary series "The Chair. "

Although Paramount has not given any confirmation on who will be directing the movie, it is expected that Roberto Orci will be stepping in as the new director for the third installment. Orci was one of the writers for the first two movies.

According to Hollywood Reporter, this will be the first time that the movie franchise reboot will not be directed by J.J. Adams as he is busy filming Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: Episode VII."

Meanwhile, Orci revealed to TrekMovie that the first draft of the screenplay for the film has been completed. He also spilled that this third installment will get even darker compared to the previous movies.

"In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films - especially the 2009 [Star Trek] - was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren't the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie," said Orci.

"So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space," the expected director revealed.

Although no specific date has yet been set, "Star Trek 3" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2016.
