Fans of the series The Young and the Restless are still anticipating the return of character Adam Newman, but "Y&R" remains on the hunt for an actor to play the role.

Adam's character remains available as Michael Muhney was fired from the series last December 2013.

Muhney, who played the role of Adam since 2009, was cut off from "Y&R" following a sexual harassment issue on the set after he allegedly groped co-star Hunter King.

According to Christian Post, charges were never filed, but Muhney has still not returned to the soap opera.

Recent reports, however, suggest that Muhney is returning for the role after he was spotted at the CBS studios. According to Breathecast, a spoiler published by Celebrity Dirty Laundry revelead that "Y&R" producer Jill Farren Phelps has invited Muhney back to the role of Adam, but the latter turned it down. Muhney has not yet commented on the issue.

Similarly, Canadian actor Cameron Mathison is reported to be a choice for the role. This is because of his on-screen chemistry with Melissa Claire Egan. Celebrity Dirty Laundry also reported that Mathison was seen at the CBS studios, possibly discussing the details of the role.

Sources say, however, that the team has not yet given any conclusions on their choices so far.

Meanwhile, fans are still outraged even several months after the firing incident. Many viewers even ended up boycotting the television series. Some even posted on twitter that no one else can fit the role except Muhney.

Recent reports, according to Breathecast, also reveal that "Y&R" has suffered a significant drop in its ratings following the exit of Muhney from the show.

Amidst the controversies, the waiting for the return of Adam Newman still continues. Nevertheless, the role is expected to be filled soon as the series has reintroduced Adam to the plot, with the character's importance growing everyday.
