FC Barcelona and Cameroonian national footballer Alex Song managed to get the heat of the game in his head after elbowing Mario Mandzukic in the back at the 40th minute of the match yesterday. Upon a review of a footage of the incident by Yahoo Sports, might have been pissed when Mandzukic appeared to be going the wrong way and bumping the former in the process. The match referee had awarded Song a red card for the act.

When a player earns a red card, he is ejected from the current game. The red card call had proven fatal to Cameroon, as Croatia scored three more goals, extending their 1-0 lead. Mandzukic seemed to have channeled his anger against Song by scoring two of the three additional goals for his team, signaling the end of Cameroon's journey to win the World Cup.

Yahoo Sports said that the Song family is familiar with the feeling of getting send off from a World Cup match. His uncle, Rigobert, earned two red card calls in the 1994 and 1998 tournaments.

Song's hotheadedness appeared to be contagious, as defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto and teammate Benjamin Moukandjo were involved in a headbutt near the end of the match. The referee had not noticed the heated physical exchange between the two for the former to step in and issue a call on either the two, but the rest of the Cameroon players, including injured captain Samuel Eto'o, had intervened and managed to stop the altercation.

Song has since issued an apology for his behavior during the crucial match. In a statement, the 26 year-old player said, "'I'm very sad at the moment as I feel I have let my country and myself down.

'It was a stupid moment and I'm truly sorry. If I could do anything to take it back I would. Please forgive me."
