$15 minimum wage by 2025 approved by Maryland lawmakers

The Maryland House of Delegates and Senate on Wednesday approved a bill to raise the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour by the year 2025.

The bill proposes that the minimum wage be raised by 75 cents each year. The current minimum wage in Maryland is $10.10 per hour. In January 2020, the minimum wage would be raised to $11 an hour. The minimum wage would then increase by 75 cents each subsequent year until 2025, when it would increase from $14 per hour to $15 per hour. The bill includes variants for small employers as well, stating a different pattern of increase for employers that "14 or fewer employees." Small employers would have until July 1, 2026 to reach the final minimum wage of $15 per hour.
