56-year-old soul singer apparently got the shock of her life when a television news report said that she is about to get arrested over a payment dispute.

On Twitter, Baker posted a tweet in response to the news report, which read, "WHATTT??!!... sittin' in the kitchen watching this on TV. BIG time crazy. Atty on his way to TV Station. Devil sho is busy."

The Hollywood Reporter said Baker has been sued by painting and decorating company Ray Smith Painting and Decorating for her failure to pay for a bill over $15,000 on work done on her estate in Gross Pointe, Michigan.

According to ClickOnItDetroit.com, Ray Smith Painting and Decorating' attorney Daniel Gerow, Baker failed to pay for the bill for renovations done at her home and also failed to show up in court on the set date for the legal dispute. He commented on the warrant of arrest issued on Baker, "We certainly would have liked to resolve it before now. We just want to try to get my client his money."

Jamal Hamood, Baker's attorney, was quoted as saying that the arrest warrant on Baker was ridiculous. "She had paid them almost $60,000, and the contract was supposed to be far less than that, and at the end, ended up with a job that was very shoddy. Very poor workmanship. She has pictures."

Hamood discussed their next step and told The Associated Press that he will be filing a motion to cancel the arrest warrant. Moreover, Hamood said that his client was never served with papers and has no idea that she was sued by a former contractor. He also said that Baker is out of town and will remain to do so until all things regarding the legal dispute will be settled.

Baker seemed to be confident about her lawyer. THR noted a tweet of the singer following her frantic post earlier, which read, "THANK YOU, for ALL the LOVE & LIGHT u've sent my way. All is well :) Light is Dim... But SHINING ANYway! Grateful 4 every lesson, ab."
