Much has already been outed about the successor of the much-acclaimed Sony Xperia Z5 Premium months leading to its speculated release at the forthcoming MWC. Now, a significant development about the smartphone's status has surfaced and this is isn't exactly what its fans would like to dwell upon.

As per GSMArena, a new unconfirmed rumor courtesy of Twitter user @ricciolo1 has revealed that the Premium-branded flagship iteration's successor of Sony Xperia Z5 Premium may very well be making its appearance at the Mobile World Congress. Meanwhile, he was quick to share that this announcement may not be official.

The same publication has added that Sony may instead be announcing the follow up of Sony Xperia Z5 Premium in prototypes during the firm's secret meetings at the event. As such, Sony may not officially unveil the product in Barcelona next month but could release it months after. This may not sit well for those consumers who have been waiting for another iteration that sports a 4K panel, a feature that was outed previously.

The successor of Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is speculated to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the chipset that is probably the most prized specification today. It is also tipped to get equipped with a 4GB or 6GB worth of random access memory (RAM).

As its rival Samsung Galaxy S8 is speculated to be the first one to come with Snapdragon 835, the official launching of Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is expected to come after a month the South Korean firm's device is released. Rumor has it that Samsung's flagship smartphone is going to be revealed in April this year so it should come as no surprise if Sony would follow suit right after.

Currently dubbed as "Yoshino," the successor of Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is slated to be unveiled this year, according to Android Headlines. It will serve as one of Sony's flagship devices that will rival Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6 and Xiaomi Mi 6, among other premium iterations.
