U.S. President Donald Trump selected Neil Gorsuch as nominee for Supreme Court Judge in an official announcement Tuesday. Judge Gorsuch is currently a judge on the 10th Circuit ofthe United States Court of Appeals in Colorado.

The nomination was announced on Tuesday Jan. 31, as reported by Reuters. Prior to the nomination, President Trump has narrowed down three candidates for his nomination along with Judge Gorsuch. The other two candidates were William Pryor Jr., a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Thomas Hardiman, on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit

As a judge, Gorsuch has a clear understanding of the U.S. Constitution. He is the advocate of originalism and textualism interpretation of the Constitution which makes him an outstanding judge with earned him respect from both Republicans and Democrats.

"Judge Gorsuch has outstanding legal skills,” President Trump praised him. “A brilliant mind, tremendous disciple, and has earned bipartisan support."

In the announcement, President Trump broke the tradition as reported by Washington Post. He entered the ceremony himself, rather than with the nominee which previous American presidents before him usually did.

President Trump proudly declared the announcement of the Judge Gorsuch as the most transparent judicial selection process. He had consulted senate leaders before announcing his election, inviting both Republican and Democrat senate leaders in the White House to discuss the selection which had earned him a praise from both Democrats and Republicans. Previously, during Obama administration, Senate refused to hold hearing for the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland which was nominated hastily.

Senate will have to first confirm the nominee, and afterward Judge Gorsuch will take place as one of the panel judges to take place the vacant position left by deceased Judge Antonin Scalia who passed away last year. Watch the profile of Judge Gersuch from CNN below:
