Tech conglomerate Google is gearing up for the release of its tech-savvy timepiece. According to TechAdvisor, Android Wear 2.0 is coming as early as next month.

The source specified that the Android Wear 2 release date is on Feb. 9, 2017. With the latest Android Wear 2.0, we can expect a more independent form of functionality. This means that the new Android Wear 2 watches can work more independently and rely less on the smartphone. This fixes one of the biggest drawbacks that smartwatches have, which is its limitations of only acting as a conduit between you and your smartphone.

Of course, some general performance tweaks will be included as well in order to ensure a better experience with fitness and messaging. Another noteworthy feature is handwriting recognition.

Owners will be able to write individual letters on the screen using their finger. A digital on-screen keyboard will also be available, if the need be.

Another surprising feature is the addition of iOS support to Android Wear 2. According to DigitalTrends, Android Wear 2 watches can be used together with an Apple iPhone.

This significantly broadens Google's market as iPhone owners will also be able to utilize Android Wear without switching their phones. This makes it even more convenient for both sides of the smartphone OS spectrum to take the plunge on smartwatches.

It's been three years since Google initially launched Android Wear. The announcement of 2.0 came with promises of significant improvements in the system's overall performance.
