Boxing icon Oscar De La Hoya was pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers after he was seen speeding in his Land Rover. According to a CHP officer, an "odor of an alcoholic beverage" was reeking out of De La Hoya's vehicle. This prompted the officers to let the boxing star take a series of sobriety tests.

The 43-year-old boxing icon agreed to perform the tests, however, he failed to demonstrate them properly. This led the officers to arrest De La Hoya under the suspicion of driving under the influence.

CHP officer Xavier Bejar revealed that De La Hoya's blood alcohol concentration was beyond the legal limit, according to LosAngelesTimes. This isn't the first time the boxing legend had an alcohol problem.

According to Ksat, De La Hoya had a history of substance abuse dating back in 2011. This led to the boxing superstar taking back-and-forth trips to a treatment facility.

This marks as an unfortunate setback for the man known as "Golden Boy." Representatives from his own company Golden Boy Promotions declined to discuss the matter of De La Hoya's recent arrest.

A week earlier, De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions agreed to team up with sports TV giant ESPN, in a multi-year deal. This partnership would have Golden Boy Promotion fights to be aired on ESPN Deportes and ESPN2, according to L.A. Biz.

Golden Boy himself even expressed his excitement over the agreement. The Golden Boy Promotions founder stated that he's "thrilled" that his talented stable of fighters will be brought over to a much wider audience.

It's unclear whether or not the boxing icon's recent run-in with the law had something to do with business or perhaps his personal life. No further comments are given by De La Hoya's representatives at this moment.
