Suspect In Custody After Shooting At Berrendo Middle School In New Mexico Leaves Two Children Critically Injured (Video)

New Mexico's officials have said that a shooting at a Roswell middle school on Tuesday morning left at least two children critically injured, The Associated Press reported. A suspect remains in custody, and the school was placed on lockdown.

"Currently, the threat has been alleviated and this incident is being investigated," read a statement from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.

"There are many resources and law enforcement officers on scene securing the area." "We believe there are injuries but to what extent we don't know yet," added Damyan Brown, the spokesman for New Mexico State Police.

The Eastern New Mexico Medical Center confirmed that they received two patients. The University Medical Center in Lubbock Texas, which is located about 175 miles from the middle school said that they will be receiving a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old girl who are both in critical condition, according to ABCNews.com.

The Roswell school shootings are one month after 18-year-old gunman Karl Pierson, who armed with a shotgun, machete and had Molotov cocktails, opened fire at Arapahoe High School in Colorado. In that incident, Pierson 'was intent on seeking 'revenge' on the school's debate team instructor who had dropped him from the team," as reported by ABCNews.com. Pierson shot and killed 17-year-old Claire Davis before taking his own life.
