'Captain America: Civil War' is speculated to make a surprise crossover with the upcoming Marvel-Netflix series 'Luke Cage' after the announcement of Alfre Woodward as part of the film's new cast members. Woodward was originally slated to play a character in 'Luke Cage'. Her casting has fueled rumors of the direct connection between the MCU and the Marvel Netflix Universe.

According to Den of Geek, Marvel may be preparing to surprise fans with a planned crossover between the Russo Brothers' 'Captain America: Civil War' and the upcoming Netflix series 'Luke Cage'. The speculation came after the announcement of two new cast members for the upcoming film.

Alfre Woodward and Jim Rash have joined the ever-growing cast however, it was Woodward's involvement that particularly sparked some interest among Marvel fans. The 63-year old multi award-winning actress was previously announced to play Mariah Dillard in the Marvel-Netflix series 'Luke Cage'. It seems that her involvement in 'Captain America: Civil War' would create a direct connection between the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the Marvel Netflix Universe.

According to Screen Crush, Woodward will take on a minor role in the upcoming film and will play a mother of a person killed during the controversial Battle of Sokovia. She will then go on a heated confrontation with Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man, placing ultimate blame on superheroes for the death of innocents.

This seems like a long shot from her original Mariah Dillard role and it may be possible that the actress would be playing two different characters for Marvel after all.  According to another article by Superherohype, Mariah Dillard is a local Harlem politician looking to create change for her constituents. In the original comic books, however, the character is a notorious gang leader and drug dealer.

'Captain America: Civil War' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. It is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2016.
