The NYPD is searching for the suspect involved in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-month-old Antiq Hennis, which occurred in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, NY1 reported.

The baby was shot in the face on Sunday night at about 7:20 p.m. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the target was the boy's father.

However, one person at the scene said the shooting had nothing to do with the child or his father, and was apparently revenge intended for the boy's uncle, CBS Local reported.

"I heard three to four shots. I saw a man with a stroller screaming: 'My baby got shot! My baby got shot! He was going crazy," witness Gina Gambo told the New York Post.

The killing was "a tragedy for his family, for this community, for the entire city," New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

This marks the second time year a baby in a stroller was shot dead. On Friday, De'Marquise Elkins, an 18-year-old, was convicted of murdering 13-month-old Antonio Santiago in an attempted robbery attempt of the boy's motherr.

The Brownsville district of Brooklyn is infamous for being one of the toughest neighborhoods in New York City.

"The child didn't even get a chance to start his life, and now it's over,"
