'The Mummy' reboot is an upcoming adventure-fantasy film directed by Alex Kurtzman. Jake Johnson of 'New Girl' and Annabelle Wallis of 'Peaky Blinders' have officially signed on to star in the film alongside leading man Tom Cruise. Principal photography is set to commence in April 2016.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Jake Johnson has officially signed on to join Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella in Alex Kurtzman's new 'The Mummy' reboot intended as part of Universal Studios' planned monster cinematic universe. The 37-year old actor will reportedly play a military man, a part which was specifically created for him.

Johnson is best known for his role in 'New Girl', where he plays lead protagonist Nick Miller opposite Zooey Deschanel's Jess Day. He also appeared in several full-feature films including 'Paper Heart', 'Safety Not Guaranteed', 'Get Him To The Greek', '21 Jump Street', 'Drinking Buddies' and 'Jurassic World'.

Annabelle Wallis has also confirmed involvement in the new film and is set to play the yet unnamed lead female protagonist. According to The Daily Mail, Wallis verified rumors by announcing the news through an Instagram post captioned, "Very excited to be joining this incredible group of people. #TheMummy #TomCruise and Belle's xx."

The 31-year old English actress is best known for her role of Jane Seymour in Showtime's popular period drama 'The Tudors'. She is currently attached to BBC's television series 'Peaky Blinders' with co-stars Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill. Her new role in 'The Mummy' will not be her first brush with a supernatural-horror film as she starred in 2014's 'Annabelle', a spin-off of James Wan's horror blockbuster 'The Conjuring'.

Although details for the upcoming film remain scarce as of the present, it was reported Kurtzman's remake will be set in modern times. It will not be connected in any way to Stepehn Sommers' preceding series from 1999-2008 starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and Arnold Vosloo.

According to Business 2 Community, Kurtzman will begin principal photography on 'The Mummy' sometime in April this year. It is penned for the big screen by Jon Spaihts and produced by Kurtzman, Sean Daniel, Chris Morgan and Robert Orci.

'The Mummy' reboot is an upcoming adventure-fantasy film starring Tom Cruise in the lead role. It is scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017.
