A senior Syrian army official told an Iranian counterpart that Israel will be the first country that it will attack should the U.S. launch missiles at them, YNET News reported.
"If Damascus is attacked, Tel Aviv will become a target and a full-scale war against Syria will essentially justify an attack against Israel. If Syria is attacked, Israel will also be set on fire and such an attack will, in turn, engage Syria's neighbors," the source said.
On Tuesday, the Israeli Defense Ministry held a special meeting in Tel Aviv headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who said, "The State of Israel is prepared for every scenario. We're not part of the Syrian civil war but if we'll spot an attempt to harm us, we'll respond with great force."
"Those who dare to test us will encounter the [Israeli Defense Forces'] might. Facing the storm, the IDF's spirit is no less strong," Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon added.

The U.S. State Department said on Tuesday that it is "crystal clear" the Assad government was responsible for the chemical attack, a claim that some in the international community, most notably Russia and China, have disputed. This comes a day after Secretary of State John Kerry gave an impassioned speech detailing that action was needed in order to protect civilians who were needlessly killed by weapons of mass destruction.
