Microsoft's Windows 10 emerged as the world's 2nd most popular operating system - beating Windows 8 and XP in terms of market share. The latest Windows platform boasts tools and features that boost its security.

Windows 10 beat Windows 8 and XP in terms of worldwide desktop internet usage as of March 2016. According to Net Market Share, a statistics website that tracks the market shares of all operating systems globally. February 2016 figures show Windows 10 growing to around one percent from its 11.85 % January share. It is evident that Windows 10 topped Windows 8 (8.83 %) and XP (11.24%) in terms of desktop internet usage worldwide with 12.82% market share as of March 2016.

Meanwhile, Windows 7 is the leading desktop OS worldwide. Statistics showed that Windows 7 grabbed more than half of the overall desktop OS market share (52.34%).

A report from The Register claimed that, Windows 10 is being used more on weekends than weekdays when majority of people would be in their homes. The report showed that Windows 10 got 14.86% in market share. The calculation of Windows 10 usage in the U.S. suggested that the OS is utilized more often by home users, not business users.

With its continuous growth, Windows 10 is not an exemption to threats and viruses. Infoworld reported that Microsoft has introduced Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection to enhance security for Windows 10, a new incentive to encourage firms to adopt the operating system. Windows Defender ATP helps detect malicious software and gives suggestions for users on how to respond to attacks in the OS.

Additional security features and tools for Windows 10 include: Credential Guard, Device Guard, Enterprise Data Protection, firewall, BitLocker drive encryption, and Windows Defender antimalware tool. Another feature, called Windows Hello, provides more security to the OS with biometric verification.

Windows 10 is still in the process of improvement and is growing at a steady pace. In a matter of time, Microsoft's Windows 10 might become the world's most popular operating system or the most popular version of Windows.
