'John Wick 2' is an upcoming action-thriller film by Chad Stahelski. It is officially named 'John Wick: Chapter 2'. It is set to be released on February 2017 and will compete against other highly anticipated sequels such as 'Fifty Shades Darker'.

According to /Film, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 neo-noir action film of the same name is set to be released on February 10, 2017. It was announced through the Exhibitor Relations twitter account on February 19. The tweet read, "Keanu Reeves will travel to Rome to kick some Italian ass as JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO drops 2/10/17."

The film's official title has also been revealed as simply 'John Wick: Chapter 2' and will feature the return of Keanu Reeves as the titular assassin. Reeves was previously seen filming in Rome with several co-stars including Ruby Rose of 'Orange is the New Black' fame. Principal photography took place in New York since October and was moved to Italy thereafter.

Other actors joining Reeves include Bridget Moynahan, Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Peter Stormare and rapper Common. Common will be starring as the sequel's newest villain.

According to another article by NME, Chad Stahelski will return to helm the film and it may seem that his original co-director David Leitch will sit the new project out. The two worked with Reeves in the highly popular 'The Matrix' film series as stuntmen and went on to direct him in the first installment, 'John Wick'.

The original film grossed $86 million against a $20 million budget and gained praise for actors' performances, choreography, action scenes and cinematic techniques. It was previously reported that Stahelski and Leitch drew inspiration from Western films and Hong Kong action cinema.

According to Forbes, the film's official release date pits it against James Foley's sequel 'Fifty Shades Darker' starring Dakota Johnson and Chris McKay's 'The Lego Batman Movie' starring Zach Galifianakis.

'John Wick 2' is an upcoming action-thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski based on a screenplay by Derek Kolstad. It is scheduled to be released on February 20, 2017.
