While the announcement of documents from Schindler's List being put on eBay for $3 million raised some eyebrows in recent days, a director of a museum in Krakow Poland, near the Auschwitz death camps said the historical document should not cost as much as the going rate is online, HaAretz newspaper reported.

The 14-page list was compiled by industrialist Oskar Schindler, identifying 801 Jewish prisoners by their name, birthdate and profession.

The story of 'Schindler's List' was immortalized in Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning film based on Thomas Keneally's 1982 book. One of four remaining copies of the list, the document posted for auction by a California seller on eBay recently made the initial asking price worth $3 million. The eBay auction boasts selling the document as the "Original Schindler's List."

Michal Niezabitowski, director of the Historical Museum of Krakow, questioned the worth of $3 million but concedes it is a remarkably rare document. ""The document has great historic significance, but it's not worth $3 million," he said. "The problem is that the original list no longer exists. Someone is trying to sell the legend here."

The copy was reportedly made in 1945 during the evacuation of Schindler's enamel factory. The other two documents are at Jerusalem's Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem while the third can be located on display at Washington's Holocaust Museum.

Six million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, mostly in Nazi death camps in Poland and Germany.
