Businessman mogul and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has threatened his competitor Ted Cruz with a lawsuit over his citizenship after the latter and his team released television campaign ads against him.

The eligibility of Cruz being the president has once again resurfaced, following his controversial campaign against Trump. According to Vox, Trump declared that he will file a lawsuit against Cruz saying he was "born in Canada and therefore cannot be president." Trump noted that if Cruz does not take down his "false ads" and "retract his lies," he will definitely push through with the lawsuit.

NBC News  reported that Trump told reporters he might file the lawsuit before the South Carolina primary. Though theree are still papers to be prepared, the GOP candidate assured that it will be a quick process if Cruz refuses to take down the ads.

The controversy regarding Cruz's citizenship was first brought up was during the GOP presidential primary. Trump claimed Cruz was born to an American mother in Calgary, Canada, but since his mother is of American citizen, he has earned his citizenship as well. However, the Constitutional mandate saying that the president must be a natural born citizen has not been settled by courts yet.

CBS News noted that Cruz has called his rival's sister, Maryann Trump Barry, a radical pro-abortionist extremist in the said ad. Trump's sister is a federal judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and in 2000, she wrote a majority opinion regarding the banning of late-term abortions.

In a Trump press release, the business mogul called the Texas senator a liar and "the most dishonest politician."  "It is hard to believe a person who proclaims to be a Christian could be so dishonest and lie so much," the statement said.  He also pointed out that Cruz is weak on his stand on immigration as well as same-sex marriage.

Cruz, who was campaigning after Trump released his statements, said he has no intention of responding to the latest comments made by the former Miss Universe host.

Meanwhile, fellow Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio has echoed the statements of Trump stating on an email entitled "Cruz BusTED On Lies" that the senator will do anything to win the elections including attacking all his opponents with "outright lies."
