New photographs from inside the paralympian Oscar Pistorius were obtained by Sky News on Friday, including images of the bathroom, which contained blood from his lover and victim, Reeva Steenkamp, news reports said.

This marks the first time the public has seen photographs from inside the bathroom where Steenkamp was killed. Prosecutors said a loud argument preceded the shooting, and allege that Steenkamp was shot and killed as she cowered in the bathroom.

Pistorius' defense has maintained that he mistook her for a burglar.

The images show a panel missing from the toilet door,  and two police markers below the handle which indicate bullet holes, low down, Sky News reported. It is likely "the defence will argue this backs up the runner's claims that he was on his stumps and shooting - from low down - at what he thought was an intruder." the news agency also said.

Pistorius, seen as the most famous paralympian in the world, has long said he was deeply in love with Steenkamp, just her girlfriend for a few months, categorizing her death as a horrible accident.

When the athlete last appeared in court, he said when he realised his mistake he did everything to save his lover, battering the toilet door with a cricket bat to get to her.

There have been only two reported sightings of Pistorius in public since he was freed: an image of him on his carbon fiber blades walking on his practice running track, and a visit to a Johannesburg restaurant.
