Lawyers for Ingmar Guandique, the man convicted of killing Washington intern Chandra Levy returned to court, claiming his conviction was "predicated on a lie," CBS News reported. The hearing was Thursday for Guandique, who is an undocumented El Salvadoran immigrant, convicted in 2010 for murdering Levy in 2001.

He is currently serving a 60-year prison sentence.

In the past, Guandique's lawyer had argued that he ought to be granted a new trial because jurors improperly shared notes before reaching a verdict. They also argued prosecutors improperly appealed to the jury's emotions. In response, prosecutors had asked for a life prison sentence, arguing that Guandique showed no remorse and had a history of violence toward women.

Chandra Levy was an intern for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. Her murder attracted heightened attention because of her romantic relationship with California Congressman Gary Condit.

Her body was found in Washington, D.C.'s Rock Creek Park.
