The HTC One M8 unit sold by Sprint has started getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Meanwhile, the HTC One A9 from the same carrier is now receiving the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update.

Sprint began rolling out the official over-the-air (OTA) Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the HTC One M8 or special Harman Kardon version. Mo Versi, HTC's vice president of Product Management, tweeted confirmation that the Marshmallow build has already been approved for the handset. The roll out started in January 30, reported International Business Times.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow has also arrived to unlocked HTC One M8 devices in the United States. Versi also hinted that the Sprint HTC One M9 might get Marshmallow next. Users can manually check for updates by going to Settings => About Phone => System Updates => Check For Update. It was reported that the OTA update might take a while to reach all M8 units, which is typical of software update roll outs.

The HTC One M8 will now get the features touted in Android 6.0 Marshmallow. These include the new app permissions, Doze, Google Now on Tap, Android Pay support, native fingerprint scanner, and more.

GSMArena reported that the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update has come to Sprint's HTC One A9 units. According to the report, Sprint released the update with software build 1.57.651.1 to the One A9. Users of the One A9 should expect to get OTA updates soon.

Android 6.0.1 is the latest monthly update to Google's Marshmallow OS. It brings new emoticons, bug fixes, security patches, battery optimizations, camera enhancements, and Wi-Fi calling.

Lawyer Herald previously said that Android Marshmallow has rolled out to the HTC One M8 devices in Asia and HTC One M9 in Canada. There are speculations that it will be the last update for the One M8 since it is already near the end of its two-year update cycle.

There are rumors saying that the HTC Desire Eye will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In a Twitter post, an anonymous HTC developer said that Marshmallow update will soon be available to the said device.
