Jennifer Capriati Charged: Former Tennis Star Hit With Stalking, Battery in Valentine's Day Confrontation with Ex-Boyfriend

By

Former tennis star, Jennifer Capriati, has been charged after police said she punched ex-boyfriend Ivan Brannan on Valentine's Day while working out in a Palm Beach gym, the Associated Press reported.

Court records show that Capriati was charged with the first count of "actually and intentionally" touching or striking Brannan against his will and "intentionally" causing him harm.

The second charge against her stated that she "willfully, maliciously and repeatedly" followed, harassed or cyberstalked Brannan.

Florida police sought an arrest warrant for Capriati two weeks ago after she launched a "volley" of punches on Brannan after stalking him for a year, The New York Post reported.

Brannan's story is backed up by two eyewitnesses, the police said.

The Olympic gold medalist tweeted that she didn't do anything wrong.

"I pushed a man that was verbally assaulting me away from me," she said. "This man has been tormenting and abusing me for so long. The truth will prevail."

Brannan also reported seven other incidents where Capriati stalked him in the year after their breakup, police said.

One of Brannan's co-workers told police of an incident in January where Capriati pounded on the windows of Brannan's office. The co-worker also said Capriati called the business up to 50 times a day.

Last September, Brannan lost a bid for an order of protection from Capriati, court records indicated.

The 36-year-old Capriati was inducted to the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island in 2012. She was a phenom in the sport, turning professional at 14.
