Rumors have emerged that Samsung is working on the Galaxy A9 Pro, a variant of its recently launched Galaxy A9 flagship.

Carrying the model number SM-A9100, the upcoming smartphone is said to be aimed at the Chinese mobile phone market.

The report, according to GSM Arena, said that the South Korean tech manufacturer is working on new firmware for the new device. However, while the Galaxy A9 Pro is said to be more highly specc’d compared to its earlier variant, there has been little elaboration on the details.

Based on the report, the Galaxy A9 Pro will be carrying a 6-inch screen, and with rumors of its bloated specifications, it may feature a higher resolution, bigger onboard storage capacity, and be powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow, NDTV said.

In contrast, the Galaxy A9, which went on sale earlier this month in China, sported a metal-framed 6-inch full HD 1080 x 1920 Super Amoled resolution on a 2.5D curved glass display.

With an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset supported by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage under the hood, it featured a 13MP rear camera with LED flash, optical image stabilization, and an f/1.9 aperture, as well as an 8MP front snapper, Sammobile reported.

The Galaxy A9 sold for an equivalent of $490 in China when it hit retailer shelves in early January.

Other information on the Galaxy A9 Pro lies in its 4,000mAh battery, the same battery carried by the Galaxy A9.

There has been no news on when Samsung is planning to unveil the Galaxy A9 Pro, however, it is said to be launching three new smartphones for its ‘J’ line this year: the Galaxy J7, the Galaxy J5, and the Galaxy J1.

Samsung is said to be planning the three-phone launch during its Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event scheduled on Feb. 20, just two days before the Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona, Spain.
