'The Good Wife' Season 7 Spoilers: Is Julianna Margulies Leaving After Its 7th Run?

The Good Wife might be losing its titular character. During an event, series star Julianna Margulies dropped a hint that she might soon depart the legal drama.

Vulture reported that the actress offered a speech for The Good Wife’s co-creators and showrunners, Robert and Michelle King, at the Casting Society of America’s third annual Artios Awards.

“I surprised Robert and Michelle tonight,” she said. “They didn’t know I was going to be here. They think I’m here for them, but I’m unemployed come April, and I think you haven’t seen me in a while, at least not in person, so I thought I should show up.”

While Margulies didn’t actually use the words “exit” or “leaving”, her announcing that she’ll be “unemployed come April” could mean that she’d already sealed the deal with CBS to depart The Good Wife after its current seventh season.

Margulies’ announcement comes after the Kings’ confirmation that they both will be stepping down as showrunners of the legal drama this year.

"The bottom line is CBS is trying to make deals for an eighth season,” Robert King told TV Line.
“So we would be there in a supervisory role, but the storytelling we have will finish in the seventh year.”

It seems that The Good Wife is already on its way to the chopping block this year. With the show losing its original showrunners and series lead, it can be speculated at this point that CBS is already considering to cancel the series.

Nonetheless, fans can still enjoy the remaining episodes of season seven until May.

In other Good Wife news, the series has tapped Carrie Preston (True Blood) to reprise her role as fan-favorite, Elsbeth Tascioni, in an upcoming episode.

“Elsbeth is coming back! @carriepreston shot an episode of #TheGoodWife yesterday,” TV Guide shared via Twitter earlier this month.

The Good Wife Season 7 airs every Sunday at 9PM on CBS.
