Samsung has officially rolled out the beta upgrade of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to some select Galaxy S5 phones. This signals the imminent release of the latest Android build to the phones which is slated to come by February.

Samsung Galaxy S5 phones get lucky with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow being rolled out to some select devices for beta tests. Although it is still unofficial, many rejoice for the overdue software update received by the phone.

The South Korean titan is slated to roll out the official version of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow around February, but everything seems unofficial as of now. What is certain is that Galaxy S5 has just begun receiving the most coveted Android update yet and will continue to more devices.

Beta test is the premature stage for software updates wherein the device manufacturers and operators will assess how the new build is doing with the phone being tested. This is to make sure that consumers will only get the best and quality upgrades. However, it is not a foolproof upgrade at all as owners have to take note that bugs are everywhere.

Last week, Samsung first released the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to some unlocked variants of Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6, which prompted news reports that official update for the device might come by the first week of February. Further, nothing is officially announced for now.

The beta test for Marshmallow stemmed from French blog claiming that Galaxy S5 units with model number SM - G900F have received the update.

Primarily, Samsung brings in a big design overhaul to TouchWiz, making it a banner feature of the update aside from Google's native features and enhancements. It also brings the security patch dated January 01, 2016.
