Shayne Carpenter, a 27-year-old California mechanic was arrested after allegedly putting Visine eye drops in his girlfriend's drink. Carpenter was arrested by Nevada County Sheriffs in Grass Valley, California when his girlfriend became ill after a fight. He was booked on domestic violence and poisoning charged, and released on $25,000 bail on Friday, reported by UPI.com.

Nevada County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Tripp told ABC News that Carpenter admitted to poisoning her. He also said Carpenter's girlfriend saw suspicious text messages on his phone and contacted the police.

"He was making texts to his buddies that if 'she's going to be talking crap then she's going to be crapping,'" Tripp told KXTV, a Sacramento-area ABC affiliate.

Carpenter's girlfriend was treated at a hospital, and later released, officials said. She is expected to make a full recovery. Her name has not been released to the public.

Tetrahydrozoline, an ingredient found in Visine and other eye drops, can cause quite a few problems like vomiting, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty breathing if ingested. The chemical can also cause tremors and seizures, according to the Inquisitr.

The Visine diarrhea-inducing episode is similar to the prank popularized by the movie "Wedding Crashers." In fact, two years ago a college student actually told police that the film inspired her to drip the solution in her roommate's water bottles. Her excuse didn't clear her, however -- she was sentenced to 90 days in prison.

Last year, a woman from Pennsylvania faced assault charges after admitting to repeatedly putting Visine in her boyfriend's drinking water over a three- year period, according to the Huffington Post.
