Don McLean, the famous author and singer of "American Pie' was arrested. He was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence yesterday in Maine but posted bail of $10,000. Moreover, he is set to appear in court hearing next month.

The Guardian reported that McLean was arrested and posted $10,000 bail early Monday at the Knox County jail. Cpl Brad Woll said he does not know if McLean has a lawyer. The 70 year old singer-songwriter lives in the town of Camden. A message left for the police chief there by the Associated Press was not immediately returned. Messages looking for comment were left through the singer's website and two representatives and a phone number listed under his name rang unanswered.

According to E News, police just responded to a 911 call at the 70-year-old singer's home shortly before 2 a.m. McLean was then taken into custody without an episode. Further details were not revealed, like whether or not his wife, Patrisha, or two children were at home at the time.

Yahoo News stated that McLean is scheduled to appear in court on February 22. McLean was fined $400 for driving his Chrysler too speedy through a Maine school zone back in 2013. McLean's attorney, that time, disagreed that the school zone warning lights obliging a 15 mph limit were not flashing; police said they were on. The attorney who represented McLean during his traffic case did not instantly return a phone message.

In April, McLean's original document and notes to American Pie sold at auction for $1.2m. The 1971 hit was about the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper in a plane crash on 3 Feb 1959 - "the day the music died". "American Pie" was named the fifth greatest song of the 20th century by the Recording Industry of America and the National Endowment of the Arts It was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.
