The upcoming sixth season of Homeland has been discussed during last week’s Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour. The event was able to shed light to some of the new season’s burning questions including the location and the fate of a fan-favorite character.

According to TV Line, Showtime CEO David Nevins has announced that season 6 will be set in New York City. He also previewed that the new location will serve as a backdrop for a storyline that is “set domestically”.

In a report from Entertainment Weekly, Nevins commented that they wanted to do another American story after filming and setting Homeland outside the continent like Afghanistan, Pakistan and most recently, Europe.

“Also, I think the actors will be happy to be back in the U.S. For a year. I don’t think it’s necessarily going to stay there forever, but there was a strong interest in doing a domestic story from the creative team,” he continued.

Meanwhile, the fate of Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) was also hashed out during the event. When asked by a critic why shows like Homeland and HBO’s Game of Thrones have cliffhangers featuring the uncertainty of a character’s fate – here’s what Nevins replied: “It’s a show that, more than those other shows, attempts to live in the real world. With Homeland, it’s not about playing games, it’s not a supernatural show, there will be no supernatural solution — if he should live.”

Gary Levine, the cable network’s president, also echoed his thoughts about Friend’s fan-favorite spy. He cites that Quinn has been through a lot physically and that the “life-or-death question remains”.
Levine told reporters that if Quinn should survive, he will no longer be the same person viewers fell inlove with from the beginning.

Albeit Nevins and Levine’s statements, a scoop from The Hollywood Reporter hints that Quinn might still be alive. The publication wrote the Howard Gordon, one of the show’s executive producers said that Quinn “has a good chance of coming back”.

“The way we’re thinking about bringing him back — if he does come back — is really exciting to me personally,” he added.

Showtime has yet to announce the official premiere date of Homeland season 6.
