Heroes Reborn will not be returning for a second season. NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt has announced at the recent Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour that the Heroes reboot is cancelled.

The network boss released a statement in a report from Entertainment Weekly. He said: “[One season] was always the plan, unless [creator Tim Kring] woke up one day and said, ‘I have another chapter to tell’”.

Reborn was the resurrection of the Tim Kring saga on air. Now that it once again failed, it seems that Greenblatt’s word this time around is already final.

“But I think we’re coming to the end of the world, maybe. Stay tuned. As far as I know, there are no more incarnations of Heroes coming,” he continued.

Albeit the network’s boss decision, Kring told The Hollywood Reporter back in July that he plans to end the reboot with a ‘closed-ended’ finale – while also citing that he had other ideas to continue with new arcs.

"The premise of the show is elastic enough to reboot. It has a basic premise — there are an undetermined number of people waking up to the idea that they have these powers — and we can always start with people's origin stories,” the series creator said.

The cancellation of Heroes Reborn comes no longer as a surprise since the series failed to impress viewers on its Thursday night block.

The series kicked off with a promising performance on September, Variety reported. It targeted a total of 6.1 million viewers and an average of 2.0 rating under the 18-49 demo. However, the ratings slipped week after week. Its midseason premiere dropped to a 1.0 in rating with a total of 3.7 million viewers.
