Director of "Guardians of the Galaxy:  Vol 2" James Gunn has confirmed the movie will be shot in 8k. This movie will be the first ever film to be shot in that kind.

Wired stated that the film will be shot using the RED 8K WEAPON Vista Vision, introduced in April 2015, with the new RED Dragon 8K sensor. The high-spec, high-price camera - they start at $20,000 (£13,700) -- is capable of recording full 8K footage (8192 x 4320) at 75 frames per second, in 2.40:1 widescreen. It features interchangeable lens mounts, an intelligent OLPF system, and in-camera 3D-LUT outputs. This will definitely make the movie appear clearer.

The director and the rest of the production team are excited about doing this. As Screenrant reported, Nik Korda, the Executive Producer, said that they are all very excited to shoot the film. Many new possibilities will be created because of the lightweight and compact size of the RED. Not every scene will be film with the new camera. With the use of the new RED WEAPON, the film will definitely be more vibrant and lively.

Discussions about directors using film or digital are abuzz nowadays, said Collider With nostalgia being the trend, many directors are still using the film. Gunn wanted to try and use digital because he feels like the aesthetic and creativity will be better. He aid on his Facebook that with the amount of data the camera can store compared to a film, he can control more things with it. He also said that he respects other directors with their choice of using film and he will continue to do more futuristic films that are equally beautiful in the past.

Gunn also believed that digital has its own positive side as well as the film. It is up to the director in which medium he is comfortable using.
