A Pittsville woman was charged with DUI after causing a three-vehicle crash in Berlin. Police arrested a mother indicted of DUI after car crash injures her three children on board.

The Maryland State Police charged a woman from Pittsville, Maryland with DUI following a three-car crash in Berlin. Addeline Schenk, 21, was taken into custody on Tuesday night at around 9 P.M. after causing a crash on Route 50 at Hall Road.

According to the report of Delaware 105.9, investigators said that Schenk was driving her Chrysler Seabring westbound on Route 50. She lost control and drove off the main road onto the right shoulder, hitting a nearby BMW. Reports indicated that the BMW had no occupants inside.

After the initial crash, a tire from the BMW was dislodged and rolled onto the middle of Route 50. Meanwhile, an incoming Ford Explorer hit the tire and lost control, eventually crashing into a guardrail on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was driven by Gabriele Eckstein, 22, from Ellicott City, Maryland.

Thankfully, both Schenk and Eckstein were safe and did not suffer any injuries. Police suspected Schenk of drunk driving because of the strong scent of alcohol on her breath. She was prompted to take field sobriety tests which she failed as per WBOC.

Schenk was arrested and charged with DUI, DWI, and negligent driving. She was later released to a friend after the arrest.

Meanwhile, another car crash occurred along Cordova Road on Monday, causing three children to be hospitalized. The Maryland State Police arrested and charged Barbara Sellner, 41, of Centrevile with DUI and DWI.

Sellner, a mother of three children, was driving a minivan along Cordova Road at 1 P.M. The vehicle veered off the road and impacted onto a tree, reported WMDT.

Police are uncertain if Sellner's children were properly secured. All four inside the vehicle, including Sellner, were transported to Easton Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. Sellner refused treatment while her 5 year old daughter and 5 month old son were treated locally. Sellner's three year old son was transferred to John Hopkins Surgical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Investigations led to Sellner taking a field sobriety test. She was later arrested and indicted of the following charges: driving under the influence of alcohol per se, driving under the influence of alcohol per se while transporting a minor, driving while impaired by alcohol while transporting a minor, and causing life-threatening injury while DUI/DWI.
