Google has released a security patch for the month of January. This aims to help devices in reaching its optimum performance. Further, the update also focuses in the key security issues which include five critical issues, two high important issues, and five moderately severe problems.

Android Authority mentioned that subscribers will receive an over-the-air message for the update. "We have released a security update to Nexus devices through an over-the-air (OTA) update as part of our Android Security Bulletin Monthly Release process," says Android as noted in Tech Times. The report also recorded Sprint's software support page that Nexus 5 will receive the latest software version MMB295S. Verizon also posted the same update for Nexus 6 and Nexus 7 with MBB290 version.

Aside from Nexus 5, 6 and 7, other devices include Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 5, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player that run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow will receive the patch update. In the process of update, experts recommend a stable connection to WI-Fi network and enough battery when getting the update. Other non-Nexus device shall receive the new software version soon, according to the related report.  

According to Android Police, the builds started to roll on January 4. AOSP source code and monthly security bulletin also starts making an appearance to confirm other bugs that are not related to the security patches. Though, there is no official detail yet on the size of the new patch and that related report mentioned that the factory images are not yet live.

On the other hand, it is known that Android's security was compromised because of Stagefright virus last year. This was done through an MMS that threatened and infected almost a billion Android devices. As of the moment, Google has no details on when other non-Nexus devices shall receive the new software version of Android 6.0.1.
