‘Han Solo Movie’ Update: Spin-off won’t be an origin story; Last film for the franchise co-creator

Star Wars franchise co-creator, Lawrence Kasdan, detailed some specifics regarding the upcoming stand-alone movie starring the cynical smuggler, Han Solo. Moreover, the writer is calling it quits after his commitment to the series.

Weeks after the debut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in cinemas, fans who have watched are now in awe and waiting for the next Star Wars movie. But they should not worry since Lucasfilm already announced the anthology films they've prepared for the upcoming years, and one of them is the Han Solo spin-off film. In the reports of Slash Film, co-creator Lawrence Kasdan detailed some of the anticipated film's specifics specially the plot in which it will be centered. Since Kasdan will be writing the standalone Han Solo film as he did with other 4 former Star Wars movies, the writer said that he's not going to take the storyline into an origin treatment. He added that it'll be an adventure of the character years before the 1977 Stars Wars.

Moreover, the creator of the franchise might say his goodbyes in writing furthermore sequels after the Han Solo movie. According to The Global Dispatch, Kasdan was quoted saying he's "done" enough for the franchise. It should be noted that Kasdan is one of the reasons why fans had blissful December for he is co-writer in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He added that he has now made four Star Wars movies and that is more than enough but he'll be back for the Han Solo movie. This is due to his family's request for him that he will co-write the anticipated film's screenplay with his son Jon Kasdan.

Nevertheless, fans will surely get their Han Solo and Chewbacca film but the production team hasn't started with it yet. However, there have been talks of actors casting for the younger Han Solo in the article written by Tech Insider. According to them, dozens of stars have reportedly auditioned including Dave Franco, Aaron Tyler-Johnson, Chandler Riggs, and Max Thierot for the role of space mercenary smuggler. But again, still no confirmation from the studio or any individual involved with the upcoming film.

The Han Solo movie is a stand-off film from the franchise Star Wars. Lawrence Kasdan will write the screenplay for the film and it won't include an origins story but an adventure prior to the Episode 4. Moreover, it'll be goodbye for the writer since he's done so much for the franchise. The Hans Solo anthology film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and slated for a May 25, 2018 release.
