Microsoft has promised its users that it will soon be releasing Windows 10 for Mobile two weeks after it announced the update's arrival for 2016.

Windows 10 for Mobile had yet to be given a definite release date back in August last year, however, the Redmond, Washington tech giant has pinpointed this year for its arrival.

Current Lumia smartphones powered by Windows Phone 8.1 will be eligible for the coming upgrade, and Lumia Support sent out a tweet last Saturday, Jan. 2, informing Lumia owners the update will be arriving before the middle of February, Phone Arena wrote.

The Lumia Support page required handsets to have an internal storage capacity of at least 8GB to be able to receive Windows 10 for Mobile, reiterating that not every smartphone will support the new mobile OS’ features.

Handsets already running Lumia Denim are eligible to receive the new update, as well as smartphones with advanced hardware. The Lumia Support page further instructed users to check their phone’s Settings information to ensure their hardware, software, and current operating system eligibility, Ubergizmo reported.

Users who own older phone models without Lumia Denim already installed may also opt to purchase a newer model. The Nokia Lumia 950 XL, which was released in November last year, already ships with Windows 10 Mobile, Inquisitr said.

The new OS features “live tiles” which automatically update with relevant information, such as breaking news, weather, and traffic conditions. Tiles for users’ preferred social networks, like Twitter, will regularly inform of new followers.

The update will also comes with the new web browser, Microsoft Edge, that features Cortana integration and web page annotation.

Users who have purchased their handsets under contract need not seek approval from their carriers to install the update, as Windows 10 Mobile can be downloaded over the air.

While no specific release date for Windows 10 Mobile has been disclosed, the update has been speculated to arrive by the middle or end of this month.
