Google Nexus devices can now be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow via Cataclysm ROM. The custom build brings a string of enhancements to Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is now available to Google Nexus smartphones and tablets that haven't received the official software through custom ROM Cataclysm. The build brings a host of improvements on performance and stability.

Cataclysm ROM can be manually installed on Google's 2015 flagship smartphones, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, as well as to its older devices Nexus 4, Nexus and Nexus 6.

Custom ROMs based on the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow software have also been made available to devices like LG G4, G3, G2, HTC One M8, Motorola Moto G (2014), Moto X (2014), Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5, among many others. Aside from these phones, other brands qualified include OnePlus, Asus, Lenovo, and Xiaomi through ROMs CyanogenMod, Dirty Unicors and Chroma, which bring features that fare well with the official build.

The hitch though is that some device makers and telecom companies void device warranty if it is installed with an unofficial build since it might harm the handset when downloaded incorrectly. Some would choose the unofficial version to get a glimpse of the Google's latest offering ahead of everyone else.

Meanwhile, Cataclysm has requirements before one can download them. Here's some:

1.       An unlocked boatloader;

2.       A custom recovery like ClockWorkMod (CWM) and TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP); and

3.       A rooted phone.

Per evaluation of Android PIT, Cataclysm has been acclaimed for their solid builds. However, it is only available to Nexus phones, not with tablets.

The ROM features improvements on performance in lieu of focusing on additional features. Users can go to the Cataclysm setting menu to enable additional features in lock screen options, quick toggles, battery saver options, LED manager, notifications, status bar icons and more.
