Kirkland & Ellis International LLP advised Lafarge S.A., a world leader in building materials, in obtaining UK Competition Commission approval for its proposed construction materials joint venture with Anglo American plc. The joint venture will combine both parties' cement, aggregates, ready-mixed concrete, asphalt and contracting businesses in the United Kingdom.

The joint venture was initially announced on February 18, 2011. Following a request by the parties, the transaction was transferred by the European Commission for review by the UK competition authorities.

The Kirkland team was led by London antitrust partner Shaun Goodman, and included partner Sarah Jordan, associates Annabel Borg, Felicity Deane and Adam Kidane, and trainee solicitor Patrick Cahill.
