An Arizona man has been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of a young mother whose baby was later found abandoned in a car seat on the side of the road.

On Friday, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that 27-year-old Antwaun Ware received a natural life sentence for the first-degree murder of Jasmine Dunbar, 21, along with additional time for endangerment after leaving Dunbar's 7-month-old daughter alone in the vehicle.

In March 2018 a couple pulled their car to the side of the road, discovering an infant in a car seat, along with Dunbar's ID and personal belongings, ABC15 reported. An investigation soon revealed that Ware had been with Dunbar that day to take a paternity test.

Authorities were able to track Ware's movements, determining that he'd driven to a nearby field to murder Dunbar. Her body was later recovered in the area.

"This defendant's callous actions have no place in our community," said Mitchell. "Thanks to the hard work of my prosecutors, he will live the rest of his life behind bars."

Mitchell also expressed gratitude to the good samaritans who rescued the abandoned infant, crediting them with saving the child's life.
