A Florida teacher was on his way to work teaching inmates in a prison facility when he was arrested by law enforcement for possessing nude photos of a minor, according to a report.
Before joining Lawtey Correctional Institution as a GED instructor for inmates, Gus Devereaux, 54, taught at Interlachen Junior-Senior High School. He left the school abruptly in February 2023 before he was terminated after a separate school investigation, WFLA reported.
In November, a family member of Devereaux's found nude images on his laptop and alerted police.
Police contacted the girl in the photos, and she confirmed Devereaux taught her when she was in the ninth grade. She added that he did not take the photos and she did not send them to him.
Devereaux was arrested on three counts of possession of obscene material depicting a child in sexual conduct. He is currently being held on $300,000 bond at the Bradford County Jail.
