A registered sex offender was arrested in Oregon after allegedly attempting to enroll in high school by pretending to be a 15-year-old girl, according to police.

On Dec. 13, employees from the Families and Communities Together program in Albany raised concerns when an individual appeared to be an adult attempted to register for high school under a fake identity.

This led to an investigation that revealed the individual was Makayla Craig, a registered sex offender, according to the Albany Oregon Police Department.

Police identified Craig as a 27-year-old with a criminal history of sex abuse and other offenses. She was arrested on charges of computer crimes, forgery, and false swearing.

The school district praised the employee's vigilance in preventing the enrollment, emphasizing the importance of identity verification in school registration processes.
