Duke University will pay the U.S. government $112.5 million to settle claims it submitted false or fabricated research data to two federal agencies in order to win grants, the Department of Justice said on Monday.
The accord resolves claims that from 2006 to 2018, Duke knowingly submitted improper claims to the National Institutes of Health and Environmental Protection Agency in 30 grants, causing those agencies to pay out funds they otherwise would not have paid.
