Bryan Singer Reveals Family Drama, Emotional Story in New 'X-Men' TV Series

By

With 20th Century Fox creating the ‘X-Men’ cinematic universe for fans and moviegoers, these audiences have naturally questioned the possibility of moving the comics from the big screen to the small screen as a TV series. Recently, director Bryan Singer explained the opportunities in the ‘X-Men’ TV series and his participation in the upcoming project to expand the ‘X-Men’ cinematic universe.

In an interview with Mashable, the helmer opened up about possible crossovers in the ‘X-Men’ TV series, especially with the premiere of FOX’s ‘Legion’ looming near. “Some crossover, is all I can really say. I can’t really speak to that. I come in and out of it, sort of, but I’ve been involved in it for about 20 years — I signed the deal in ’96! I think there’ll just be crossover and standalone,” he said, while adding: “It’s just the right thing to do. The X-Men universe is every bit as big as the rest of the whole Marvel universe, so why not?”

Aside from discussing the team-up between FOX and Marvel together with possible ‘X-Men’ movie crossovers, Singer offered a first look at the details around which the new ‘X-Men’ TV series will revolve. While the project remains untitled, Matt Nix is already onboard to work on the pilot episode.

As reported by Variety, the story will be centered on two parents who learn about their children’s mutant abilities. Their family is then forced to escape from the government and team up with other mutants living underground for their survival. The director also noted that the upcoming ‘X-Men’ TV series is not a reboot but is a standalone.

While the new ‘X-Men’ TV series will greatly differ from ‘Legion,’ it also remains different from the past ‘X-Men’ movies. According to Singer, it will be a family drama and will offer an emotional story despite “effects, powers, and things like that.”
