AMD To Launch Ryzen On March, Vega On Q2 2017

By

AMD just posted their latest results on the Q4 earning report and have given a few details regarding their upcoming products. AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that the new Ryzen CPU will be launching early March while Vega will release some time on the 2nd quarter of 2017.

An early March release of Ryzen has been expected according to Forbes. Rumors are also backed by the upcoming panel at GDC which will be held on Feb. 27 to March 3. The panel is titled "Optimizing for Ryzen CPU" which could likey be the official launch of the new CPUs.

The CEO also confirmed that it has future plans for the new CPU. AMD is looking ahead to develop Zen 2 and Zen 3 and is keeping th 7nm technology in mind for the follow ups to Ryzen.

Ryzen is a response to Intel's CPU dominance in the past few years. AMD hasn't released a new CPU architecture in the past five years and with Ryzen, the company now has a legitimate chance of competing with Intel.

Su says that the Ryzen CPU's will directly compete with Intel's i5 and i7 processors. Last year, 60 percent of AMD's revenue came from their GPUs with only 40 percent coming from the CPUs and hardware applied on Xbox One and the Playstation 4.

But even if Ryzen doesn't dethrone Intel, AMD will at least force their rival to make some changes and potentially lower their current CPUs or greatly improve their next ones. Competition among the two companies is good for the customers and the industry as well.

Vega, on the other hand, will launch on the second quarter of the year and will compete with Nvidia's top of the line GTX 1080. According to Pcgamer, the Vega is pegged to perform 45 percent faster than the Fury X which should put it above the 1080's performance.
