Steve Bannon Is Our President, In Case It Wasn't Clear Yet

By (staff@lawyerherald.com)

Who would've thought that a Breitbart News firebrand would become America's most powerful man? President Donald Trump signed an executive order, which uplifted Steve Bannon's role from a White House political adviser to that of a National Security Council. What's even alarming - Trump downgrading the status of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence to give Bannon more authority to act. Simply stated, he gets to help decide war and peace.

Bannon served a driving force during Trump's campaign and laid political and ideological foundations for him before he became the president he is now. Bannon promoted the idea that Republican lawmakers betrayed American workers on issues like immigration and trade, a recurring theme during Trump's campaign. Rather than telling him what he can't do, Bannon chose the dangerous path by becoming an enemy of the Washington establishment, including the Republican Party. Bannon must have truly gained the president's favor for the latter to refer his relationship with the Leninist as a "peer rather than as an employee."

It is safe, to say the least, that Trump sees an ally in the person of Bannon so much so to trust him with decisions involving the country's security. If there is someone to blame over the path America has chosen during the recent weeks, it is not Trump but Bannon who is responsible for the outrage of the people. But some are not surprised with Bannon's preference for war and destruction as he is very vocal about his stance on the issues he holds dear. In 2010, Bannon mocked Bush's statement and was quoted "Islam is not a religion of peace. Islam is a religion of submission. Islam means submission."

In 2014, he explained his worldviews and stressed that conservative populism would take over the world. Notably, his remarks were given long before Trump's rise or Brexit. There would be no problem if things stayed the way it was, Bannon could keep expressing his ideologies in Breitbart News and that wouldn't affect many, however, Trump has turned the NSC as a place for politics, which shouldn't be the case. The NSC principal committee, which Bannon has joined, is an exclusive avenue for the most powerful people in the US government to deliberate questions about counterterrorism, military operations among others before they raise it to the president, as per Vox.

To date, Bannon played a key role in picking individual cabinet appointees and helped craft the president's enormously controversial executive orders. With his ascent to the NSC, Bannon's influence will certainly grow in the years ahead. Inexperienced, unconfirmed but immensely powerful, Steve Bannon may just be the most dangerous man in America.
