OPPO R9 Dethrones Apple's iPhone In China's Sales Charts; Smartphone Reaches Sales Milestone

By

OPPO's flagship model has taken over Apple's popular iPhone in terms of the number of units sold in China.

Just because tech company OPPO is in its home turf doesn't mean it has the advantage in the smartphone market. According to GSMArena, Apple has been dominating the Chinese smartphone market for the last five years.

This was until OPPO released their flagship R9 model, which has beaten iPhone sales by a large margin. OPPO's R9 sold 5 million more units than what the iPhone 6S sold.

In the previous year alone, the R9 already sold 17 million units. OPPO's R9 sales count is reported to be on a swift and constant rise since then.

The source also mentioned that Apple's shipments declined by 21 percent. While OPPO's shipments have skyrocketed to a ginormous 106 percent increase!

This puts the Chinese tech company ahead of the competition in their homeland. The R9 model in particular has received multiple positive feedback from consumers and tech reviewers alike.

A review from DailyTech praised the R9 for having an excellent battery life. The beefy battery comes as a surprise since the R9 is marketed mainly as a "Selfie" centered phone.

The "selfie oriented" smartphone is praised for its camera that takes clear and crisp pictures. Both front and rear cameras are capable of capturing "very detailed high resolution" pictures, according to ITWire.

The source stated that the R9 has specs that are seen in phones that cost twice as much. In fact, the R9 is so popular that it contributed to OPPO's massive sales figure.

The Chinese tech giant just announced that R9 sales have reached a whopping 20 million units, according to the previous source. Based on the sales statistics, it's no wonder that Apples iPhone had reportedly captured only 2 percent of the market shares compared to OPPO's 4 percent.
