Photos of Selena Gomez and The Weeknd hugging and kissing following a romantic dinner date the night before surfaced online, which led to the 26-year-old singer’s ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid unfollowing the ‘Hands to Myself’ singer.
While Hadid cut contact with Gomez on Instagram, she still follows The Weeknd, as captured by Elle in their screenshots. Meanwhile, Gomez and The Weekend did not hold back in showing romantic sparks between them after leaving Santa Monica’s popular spot, Giorgio Baldi, as seen in the photos by TMZ.
A source opened up to E! News, saying that Gomez had already “been on his radar before.” At the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, the ‘Kill Em With Kindness’ songstress, together with good pal Taylor Swift, happily danced to The Weeknd’s ‘I Can’t Feel My Face’ performance.
In the same year, Hadid’s ex-boyfriend performed with Gomez at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. That Christmas, the IMG model and The Weeknd had already been on a break following eight months of being together, although they were “still in each other's lives...just not in the same exclusive capacity," an insider told E! News. The couple took some time together, though, to make an appearance as a couple at the 2016 Grammy Awards where Gomez was also present.
Meanwhile, Hadid happily made her debut at the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show as she joined her sister Gigi and close friend Kendall Jenner, after her breakup with The Weekend, who also performed at the star-studded event.
"There is no awkwardness," the 20-year-old model said to E! News. "He is my best friend, and I am excited because I am walking during his performance."
After taking a break from the limelight, Gomez returned to the public eye after appearing at the 2016 American Music Awards in November. It was revealed by the news site that Gomez and The Weeknd began chatting before the Christmas holidays. In his latest interview with GQ, the crooner opened up about wanting to start a family before exchanging wedding vows.
“I feel like I’m the kind of guy that would have kids before getting married,” he said. “The first thing would be kids. Marriage is scary to me, man.”
