Gabrielle Union BET suit settled due to "Being Mary Jane" season 4 ratings concerns

By

The Gabrielle Union BET suit may have finally been resolved. The "Birth of a Nation" actress will be coming back to a fourth season of the show after a deal with the network has been reached.

According to E! Online, the two parties have settled amicably, though the terms of Union's agreement with the network and the production company Breakdown Productions has not been revealed. It was also not known if the defendants paid Union the $3 million in general damages that her camp demanded after BET and Breakdown Productions turned their back on a previous agreement to have a substantial break between the fourth and fifth seasons. Instead they wanted to produce the two seasons back to back to cut costs and maybe endangering Union's blossoming movie career.

It can be remembered that back in October when the news of the Gabrielle Union BET suit first got reported, the fans were very surprised. After all, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "Being Mary Jane" is one of the most popular cable shows in the lucrative 18-49 demographic with an average 2.54 million viewers per episode, making it BET's top rater. That is even more impressive as the show is only one of two scripted programs in the network's current roster.

The BET network will air "Being Mary Jane" season 4 next year on Tuesday, January 10. The Lawyer Herald will be posting more news and updates on "Being Mary Jane" season 4 and the Gabrielle Union BET suit in the coming weeks.

Will the settlement of the Gabrielle Union BET suit mean that the production of "Being Mary Jane" season 4 is being fast tracked? Do you think Union got the resolution she wanted with the case? Fire away in the Lawyer Herald comments section. Meanwhile, watch the trailer for the third season of "Being Mary Jane" in the video below.
